Below is an aerial view of Central DuPage Hospital, Winfield Rd., Winfield, IL.  Frank's Finer Foods closed in 1994, but in 1982 it was located right across the street from the hospital.  On Tuesday afternoon, September 28, 1982, Mary Reiner checked out of Central DuPage Hospital, where she'd just given birth to a baby boy.  Before driving home Mary and her husband stopped at Frank's Finer Foods and bought a bottle of Regular-Strength Tylenol.

At some point, within 21 hours of buying the Regular-Strength Tylenol, Mary put six Extra-Strength Tylenol capsules into the Regular-Strength Tylenol bottle; all six had been laced with cyanide. On Wednesday afternoon Mary took out two of the Extra-Strength Tylenol capsules from the Regular-Strength Tylenol bottle, swallowed them, and minutes later she died.

After some initiall confusion, investigators discovered that Mary had mixed the Extra-Strength Tylenol capsules in with the capsules in her Regular-Strength Tylenol bottle.  The Extra-Strength Tylenol was not purchased at Frank's Finer Foods.
A woman who died in Winfield, a far west suburb of Chicago, had capsules from lot MB1833. There was initial confusion over the batch number in that case because she apparently mixed Extra-Strength Tylenol capsules with regular Tylenol.

Even though none of the victims purchased cyanide laced Tylenol at Frank's Finer Foods, every news article that lists the stores where cyanide laced Tylenol was purchased includes Frank's Finer Foods in Winfield IL. Those articles are wrong.

It seems likely that the "eighth bottle" of cyanide laced Tylenol was planted into evidence as a means to cover up the location of the Pharmacy outlet where the cyanide laced Tylenol that killed Mary Reiner was actually dispensed.
